Wedge Wire Filter Operating Principle

When the filtrate enters the industrial filter, it flows from the outer surface to the inner core of the wedge wire screen. Contaminants and suspended particles in the liquid gradually accumulate on the outer surface of the screen, forming a filter cake. The fluid component, along with finer particles smaller than the gap width of the wedge wire screen, passes through the gaps into the interior, thereby achieving purification.

 

Concurrently, particles and impurities smaller than the aperture size can be adsorbed onto the wedge wire surface or retained at the narrowing flow channels, thereby enhancing the filtration precision.

Secondly, as the filter cake thickens, the differential pressure across the filter gradually increases. When it reaches a preset value, the control system triggers the self-cleaning cycle. Utilizing the V-shaped slot structure—narrow on the outside and wider on the inside—trapped impurities and deposited contaminants are effectively flushed away, while the drain valve opens to discharge the accumulated waste.
